chat is down

As you might have noticed, the chat server is down.  It has become unstable, not sure why.  Maybe because more folks are hitting it with new browsers like Chrome or something, don’t know.  I’m trying to figure out what will be the least work, to remove chat entirely or to resusitate the thing.  Here’s a link to what I guess folks are using: chatzy

me again, chat, p&r

Reading more of my brother’s book.  Very good, unlikely precept but cleverly executed.  My brother “wrote” the title for Water for Elephants and is credited at the beginning of that book, and then he has a testimonial from Sara calling his book “well wrought.”  Wow, I don’t think I’ve ever wrought anything!

Chat might be staying as my tweezy fix seems to be holding the site together and the effort to shut it down now exceeds that to let it run.

I’ll post a new kinder gentler P&R URL shortly.

P.S. Oops, I spoke too soon.  The chat server was spinning and consuming undue resources.  I’ve shut it down and now it looks like it’s back on my hit list.  Sorry you 0.1% who visit chat…

p&r went away

I personally stopped visiting the P&R (politics and religion) discussion board several months ago as the signal to noise ratio seemed pretty bad and it was overly dominated by folks who’d take a topic into either silly-land or personal abuse.  I had some complaints about ongoing bad behavior on the board and impulsively decided to pull the plug.  No money is made on those boards and I’ve got better things to spend my time on.  Apologies for the sudden termination but man, if folks can’t play nice, go somewhere else and do it, that’s what I say.  It’s a big ol’ Internet and there are plenty of other sites where you can go be obnoxious.  I’ll publish a URL to a new more tightly moderated P&R-esque discussion board shortly.

chat alternative?

The chat server has mysteriously become unstable, threatening to take the entire site down. Rather than spend time working on a site feature which is pretty underused these days I’d instead recommend the handful of folks who use chat start looking for an alternative.

There are tons of free chat rooms you can set up and there’s probably some way to use Facebook.

Please work to find something that’s OK for you and I apologize for the disturbance in the force. As I frequently say I’m just one guy and I need to allocate my time appropriately.   Here’s the thread to discuss.

words by post

Meanwhile back at this online/on-phone Scrabble thing.  I’m spending way too much time on it.  If you’ve got a smart phone, take a moment and install this from your marketplace.  The name of the app is “words by post.”  I’m playing under the name ‘confundido’ and I’m currently ranked 1444 so I’m pretty freakin awesome.  I think you can challenge each other directly so post your name in the Discussion thread so I’ll know to look for you.  And here’s the guy’s site again.

words by post

I’m playing a really fun game a friend of mine did for phone, “words by post.”  It’s free and available on iPhone, Android, and Windows Phone.  It’s basically a scrabble game but with a unique twist for phone that allows you to play a scrabble game over many hours/days (or several games at a time) as time permits.  It’s highly addictive.  I wish he had a web version but so far it’s just for phone.  Check it out if you’ve got one of those smart phones and here’s the Discussion link.
